The Fort Greene Photography Organization was founded January 14th, 2001 by one time Fort Greene resident, Ocean Morisset. The organization is open to anyone who has an interest in the art of photography, regardless of skill level or artistic vision. Our mission is to advance public interest in photography by exposing the works of emerging photographers, and to provide photographers with a forum to share and advance their work as a collective. FGPO aims to organize, present, and sponsor exhibitions, lectures and other events related to photography in order to foster a greater appreciation and understanding of the art form by the general public, and thereby making it accessible to all. FGPO is a membership organization that meets on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Recently incorporated, we’re on our way to obtaining our 501(c)(3) non-profit incorporation, thereby becoming a nonprofit organization. Meetings consist of photo sharing and critiques, event/exhibition planning and member/guest slide presentations. FGPO hosts workshops conducted by professional photographers held at various venues including the International Center for Photography (ICP). Guest artists have included: Chester Higgins Jr., Carl Pope Jr., Gerard Gaskin, Steve Hart, Peter Simon, Serge J-F. Levy, Keisha Scarville and Jean Christian Bourcart to name a few.
